2015 Recipient – White House Initiative on Educational ExcellenceNovember 4, 2016
AOS was the proud recipient of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence – Bright Spots for Hispanics. This was the second presidential award received by AOS for its innovative and educational STEM/STEM “Art of Stepping” program. Previously, AOS received the President Obama Council on Fitness, Nutrition and Sports in 2010.
This award is significant as it demonstrates that AOS programs look to target or serve the Hispanic community and its mission aligns with the initiative’s key educational priorities of Early Learning, College Access, Latino Teacher and STEM/STEAM Education. Moreover, in order to receive this award AOS had to supply measurable goals to evaluate its effectiveness and impact on the Hispanic community as well as demonstrate an evidence-based approach. Lastly, this award illustrates AOS’ ability in addressing the educational achievement gap for Hispanic students, and how AOS as a “Bright Spot” recipient is helping to ensure academic and professional successes and life outcomes.
AOS is New York based but services large Hispanic communities across the country in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City. AOS prides itself on diversity as evidenced by it racially diverse workforce and offering programs to all communities. Overall, this award was accepted with a heavy heart by AOS Founder, Jessica Saul (Morales), who is Hispanic and was elated to see her program get such praise while simply giving back to her community!
